Apart of Southern Ballet Theatre's mission is to inspire individuals and families through the performing arts, regardless of financial, physical or mental ability. SBT does this through our free Special Ed Dance Class, our free educational community performance in March, and providing scholarship monies to families that cannot afford dance.
SPECIAL ED PROGRAM
Our Special Ed Program provides free classes to children with intellectual, medical and/or physical disabilities. All children have the opportunity to perform with the Southern Performing Arts Academy, where the classes are held.
Angela Graham is the program director. She has Bachelor and Master degrees with a focus on music therapy and Autism and Emotional Behavior Disorders. Her classes are a combination of tap and creative movement.
FREE EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Another strong commitment of SBT is to provide a free educational version of our Spring story ballet every year. This free show is open to 655 local preschools, elementary schools, retirement homes, homeless shelters, and special needs communities. Patrons that attend also get to have a meet and greet with our dancers afterwards.
